The Evolution of Boots

Boots have evolved over the years. Going from the wintery seasonal shoe of the year to the year-round fashion wear, and the kinds you are likely to find in a strip club and/or in a seductive setting. From the ankle boots to the up-to-your-thigh high boots; from the low heel to the super platform 8 inch heel; from the tennish shoe high heel look to the wedge. Now-a-days, it’s hard to tell what’s weather and what’s not.

Is it really a fashion statement when boots that are likely to be worn in the snow, find their way being worn with your favorite pair of a jeans, a sleeveless pile lined vest, sexy top on a 105 degree weather day? Does it really look hot when you wear a pair of cowboy boots with a micro mini skirt? Is it ok to just simply wear boots with the anthing-goes attitude? I owned my first pair of flat-heel leather boots back in 1989, and haven’t worn boots since 1991. It took me a long time to make up my mind to transition over to high heel boots after my frenzie with Fredericks of Hollywood. But I always said that if I wore a pair of boots, they had to be classy, stylish, and be worn with the right outfit.

And now as it stands, I have only been wearing high heel boots for a little over four years or so, and have just transitioned into the stylish ankle boots and the 5 inch oxford found at Pierre Silber and Maya Shoes in Hollywood, CA. And what I have seen done to boots that lead me to make such a different switch, and over the years has made me raise more than an eyebrow. It appears that shoe designers wanted to do more than created a fashion statement with their designs. Cutting away portions of the front, making them snap on using three flaps to create snaps, or lace up boots. My goodness…and what’s so ironic, if you listen carefully, you are likely to hear, “if you make it, they will by it.” Who is they? The generation of tomorrow, who are quick to believe that fashion trends today are the way of the world tomorrow, and are what sets them apart from the old-fashioned era. How do we keep up? There is absolutely no way to hide from it. You can simply just don’t spend the money.

The good thing is, we have so many styles to choose from and are not inclined to be restricted to the winter/wet months to wear boots. But can we withstand the long-expanded ritual of shoe designers over-stepping their creative responsibility, acquiring the “anything goes” attitude just to satisfy the thirst of the boot consumer? Who knows.

Combat Stress…By Yourself a Pair of Shoes

Stress and frustration…Let me tell you, I have been going at this all wrong, in terms of being stressed out and frustrated out of my gorg. I just have not looking at this right, until late January, early February of 2007 when I faced the fact I had a weight problem, and was forced to identify where the stress and constant frustration was coming from, and what was causing me to have the weight problem. So, and without the risk of sounding like a cliche, I was turning to food for answers, rather than going to the source of my problems. What turned me off to that method of looking at food for answers, was when I wanted to put on my favorite pair of jeans and couldn’t even get them past my hips. It was right then that I identified the problems and came up with a new solution…the Stress Fund. Whenever I found myself getting stressed out or frustrated about something I learned to deal with it right then, and then I would put some money in an envelope titled, “Stress Fund.” And this money is purposely used for buying shoes, clothes, or whatever I wanted. In this case, it was shoes.

Does it work? I have to admit that it has done wonders for me. It may work differently for others, who knows. But from February 2007 to now, October 2007, I have lost a little over ten pounds, and have acquired more shoes than I care to admit, but I have found some relief, and have learned to control my weight at the same time, take better care of myself, and deal with issues as they arise. Instead of eating myself to death, I go for long extended walks, read books, shoot some hoops with my daughter, spend countless times on the computer, and watch a good movie, and of course, add a new pair of shoes to my ever so expanding collection. If it’s late in the middle of the night, and I find myself craving something to eat…I get into my closet, go through my shoes, try on different outfits to see which shoes look the best. It drives my boyfriend crazy because I’m up all hours of the night, but it keeps me out of the refrigerator. If I don’t do that, then I simply go to sleep.

Why did I go this route? Frankly, and some of you may already know, aside from loving high fashion, I love shoes. It’s my one outlet that keeps me out of trouble. I don’t spend a whole lot on one pair of shoes, so it’s easy for me to do. I bargain hunt for the best styles and prices and take it from there. When I go into my Stress Fund, I look at how much is available, and I put myself on a budget in terms of how much I want to spend. And by doing this, believe me, I have discovered more styles and shoe designers I had not noticed before.

What’s my point? Stress is a silent killer. Especially if not recognized and handled right away. I can create major health problems which many are long-term. I have had many deaths in my family, and looking at myself in the mirror made me realize I have a daughter to raise, whom I love more than life. The Stress Fund was not only a solution for me to cut down in my eating and to pay more attention to what I ate and when I ate it, but to realize just how important my life is.

The Stress — for women who love shoes — can lead to a shopping spree of all sorts if you just keep adding money and don’t spend it. And I think it can help you keep things in perspective, and better focus on those things that stress you out at the same time treating yourself. So, ladies, if you ever get so stressed out that you just can’t stand it any more, and you have the cash on hand, or your Stress Fund is overloading with free money, do yourself a favor, buy yourself some shoes and see how much better you feel. My Stress Fund has done wonders for me because now I can proudly wear my favorite jeans and feel good wearing them.
