The Death of my favorite shoes

my shoes

August 22nd, 2000 - December 10th, 2004

hi all…I am here to eulogize the passing of my favorite pair of shoes. They were a gorgeous black wedge, with ankle and toe straps. These shoes were on life support via paperclips and my stitching, but we all knew they were living on borrowed time. They came off of life support with the aide of a miraculous doctor but met the shoe reaper in a terrible Yuletide accident. My roommate invited me to a VIP Christmas party, attended by the elite socialites of San Diego. There was quite a gap between wine and cheese and the main course so needless to say I was a bit tipsy. The evening went on and at about 2:30 am my roommate and I began to walk to the waiting chaffeur (aka some lonely man looking for any drama in his life who thankfully did not leave us there). I was walking rather swiftly on the weathered walkway by the beach when all of a sudden a stone came out of nowhere, barreling under my shoe!!! I twisted my ankle and collapsed to the earth. I did not yet realize my shoe had passed, not until I rose and tried to take an inital wobbly step into the darkness. My poor shoe dangled, lifelessly from my ankle, its toe strap ripped from the sole, like a severed appendage. I cried out into the night, cursing this wretched earth that took my beloved shoe from me. Sadly, the shoe could not be repaired and it now lies in its shoebox coffin in my closet. The other shoe is perfectly fine and lovingly forever entombed with its deceased mate. There was another death that night, my roommates job at that company. O well.

I understand your pain. My favorite pair of heels…vintage laced leather mules…were murdered. Yes, murdered…by my roommate’s two dogs! I found them, in pieces, all over the floor. And, I must admit, I almost shed a tear for them. Life has never been the same. Alright, well, my closet has never been the same. :)

Its terrible - isn’t it? I can’t imagine walking in and seeing your favorite shoes strew about in such a disturbing way. I’m glad there are others who have lived through a shoes death. we must be strong :)

I am so sorry for your loss:( I have the same pair in brown. I’ve worn them to the beach and for Friday’s casual wear. I’d bury them in my closet too if they passed away. Shoes like that don’t come around very often.

Got something to say?
