Beyonce Knowles in High Heels
A few years ago, I watched Oprah Winfrey as she interviewed Pop Diva, Beyonce Knowles on her talk show. I noticed that Beyonce was wearing a beautiful pair of high heels while she was performing on stage. She was dancing and moving with the grace of a butterfly. It seemed as though her feet never touched the floor.
Oprah asked her how could she walk in those shoes. The Diva replied that she could barely walk in heels. However, she can dance in them.
Strange, and interesting!
I would think that dancing in a pair of high heels would be more of a challenge than walking in them. Evidentally many dancers have achieved the skill of dancing and walking in heels without any problems.

High Heels and the Aging Process
High heels were considered sexy and grownup when I was an up and coming teenager.
I was almost thirteen years old before I was able to wear my first pair of heels. They were imported directly from my sisters hand-me-down closet.
I was only allowed to wear heels to church. Not that I minded one bit. I could not walk two steps in them anywhere else. At least at church, I could sit down and not be noticed.
I finally mastered the art of walking in high heels when I began to date. Men loved the tall alluring look. That helped me a lot because I was only 5′1 tall.
My college boyfriend gave me my first pair of high heeled boots. He loved to see me walking in high heels whenever we were on a date. However, he went a little overboard by purchasing me a pair of boots that were at least five inches high.
I tried to walk in those boots, just to please him. It was literally impossible to remain sexy and glamorus without falling down or leaning on something or someone while trying to walk at least two blocks to the movies.
I found out later, that a prostitute had selected those shoes for him and suggested that he give them to his girlfriend. Don’t ask questions!
Now, I have digressed back to only being able to walk two steps in the heels. Age and beauty are not mixing here!
A couple of weeks ago, I wore a pair of Susan Lucci pumps to church. They were beautiful stillettos with beige designs. They matched my off white, two piece suit beautifully. It is sad to say that I walked in looking great, and walked out looking like a broken old woman. I had to carry my shoes in my hands while I limped to my car. At that time, I wanted to take those Susan Lucci’s and throw them in the woods, jump up and down, and scream, “Free at last! Free at last! I am so glad that I am free at last!”
Today, I see five and six year old girls wearing high heels, and walking in them like a professional. I wonder how this will effect them whenever they become an old timer like me. Will their backs ache? Will they have icky green veins running up thier long, slender legs like Spiderman?
I have finally come to this conclusion; high heels are for the young and the hookers.
I don’t fit in either category. So, I guess you can understand why I wear a sensible Nine West and leave the stillettos alone.
Higher Isn’t Always Better
I love high heels just as much as any other girl, but I started to have a few problems wearing my heels. My ankles, feet, and back started hurting so I had to retire my beloved heels. Well this fall I feel in love with a pair of gray heeled boots. To my surprise I could wear these boots all day and not experience any pain. I soon realized the reason my feet and back were hurting is because the heel I was wearing was too high. My advice to any women is to wear a shorter heel, wear heels that are no more than two inches high. There are less problems that will occur with you feet and body later down the road if you follow this.
Antonio Berardi Spring ‘08 Showstopper
In the Spring ‘08 collection of Antonio Berardi there was a bit of a surprise as a model walked down the catwalk in this heel-less heel.
For those of us who aren’t buying our heels at Nordstrom (at least not all the time) we are going to have to wait for these to hit the mainstream before buying. They are currently going for right around $1,100 - and being snatched up by stars like Uma Thurman.
While at first glance, these high heels might look impossible to walk in, if you think about the way your mother taught you to walk in heels (toe-heel vs. the clunking of heel-toe) you’re not really putting much pressure on your heel when you walk in high heels anyway.
These shoes are great for a date, or other activity where you won’t mind walking like a ballerina in toe shoes for a little bit, and the drama of the shoe is well worth the little bit of extra effort to keep your balance.
Just when you thought the high heel was becoming a classic that could not be redefined, the runway shows us you can have a high heel…without the heel.
This is one example of how toying with a classic can produce an interesting and wearable piece of art. Do you think you could walk in these sexy snakeskin high heels? Are they something you would be willing to wear out on the town?
High heel Tip
Being women we absolutely love to wear high heels not matter what. Well when the weather isn’t the greatest outside what are we to do? Well I have a wonderful suggestion for that. Be sure to have a patent leather high heel in your closet for those rainy or snowy days. That way you won’t ruin your shoe and you can just wipe the water and or snow right off without damaging your beloved high heel.
