When it’s not suitable to wear heels

May 16th, 2008 by lizpearl

Okay. So this has kind of been bugging me. So last month I went to the Kanye West ‘Glow in the Dark’ concert. As expected all the kids donned colorful hoodies, tshirts, and of course, shutter shades. But why were girls wearing clubbing attire and four inch pumps??? Seriously, you’re at a concert where you’re gonna be on your feet the whole time! I myself like to dress comfortably to a show like this. I’ll put on a cute top with jeans and tennis shoes cause I know that I won’t be moving out of my front row spot the entire show and I’m sure as hell not going to be sitting down in a pit. And plus there will be pushing and it’s hard to maintain your balance and spot in high heels while trying to push back crazy concertgoers.

Ladies, I know you’re all trying to look pretty, but ditch the stilettos. Instead slap on a pair of sparkly flats or Coach tennis shoes. You’re gonna be in a pool of concert goers who only, and should only care about the music than who’s wearing what.

    Liz,

Concerts are for hooking up, not for the appreciation of great music!! I have never been to a show where the majority of people were actually listening to the music. Concerts exists as a meeting up point, so you want to be seen and impress the opposite sex (sometime the same sex)!!

I know, the world you and I grew up in has changed. But anyway, I am a black man from Detroit so none of this makes any sense to me.

I agree with you that a concert is a place to meet people, but who have the same taste in music as them, and eventually there will be someone there that you’re attracted to. But why pay $45 just to find someone to hook up with? That can be done online or for free at some other place.

And yeah I do notice that a lot of younger people go to these concerts not for the appreciation of music but just to be there and be seen, or cause they only know one song. Another example is when I went to a Lady Sovereign show last year. My friends and I stood behind 2 blondes who were taking “myspace” photos of themselves the entire time. I know it sounds like I’m profiling, but they were only there for the one song that was featured on TRL, cause after that, they finally left. Wouldn’t you want to go to a concert because you’re a fan of the artist and want to experience it live?

You’re either being sarcastic or you’re 16 years old. Either way that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read.

Whoa! This sounds so much like when my daughter and I went to the Christmas Tree Lighting at The Grove LA last November. There were tons of people and the crowd was enormous. As there were those who were dressed comfortably because we were on our feet from about 4:00 to nearly 10:00 later that night. And yet there were women wearing high heel boots, stilettos and clothes more appropriate for the night club. It was amazing for me to see that this is the generation of some of our young girls, but come on, let’s get real. Where there are going to be events like this that I usual attend with my daughter, in no way am I going to throw on a pair high heels when I know I am going to be on my feet for a length of time, because people are always moving and you never know what can happen from one minute to the next. I will throw on a pair of tennis, jeans, a comfortable top, and have on a jacket or sweater something to shield me from the weather if it’s a cool night that night.

Yep, it’s one thing to look hot with feet killing ya, but it’s another thing to look hot and be comfortable.
