High Heels for a Cause
April 5th, 2008 by Jennifer GniadeckiThere are many ways to raise money for a charity.
- Bake Sale
- Marathon
- 5K walk
- Selling wrapping paper door to door
They all work fairly well, too…but if you’re looking to get some serious publicity for your cause, you need something different…something interesting.
Something like men walking in high heels.
Lubbock, Texas wasn’t content to hold a fund raiser like every other fund raiser when it came to raising money for the local rape crisis center. They had people sponsor their favorite guy in town and he walked around the Lubbock Country Courthouse in a pair of high heels.
The most well known participants:
- The town sheriff.
- The mayor.
- The Lubbock High School football team.
All in all, close to fifty men walked around the courthouse in high heels.
This is a truly unique (and fun) way to raise money for a very serious and worthy cause.
I do wonder where they purchased the high heels, and if the sales clerk was aware what they were buying the shoes for. Even the most open minded person would be curious why almost 50 men were buying high heels at the same time.
